I’m not sure if this is the way to contact you but…. I found your posting in the Kings River site about the Reuben Dunbar murders. I’m very interested in the cemetery you mentioned. It’s not quite as exciting as the murders of the Lester boys but Calvin Finkle, a leader in the anti-rent movement was shot and killed by a deputy sheriff over in North Greenbush. I believe he was buried in Dunbar Hollow on land belonging to his wife’s family, Eleanor Dunbar. according to the story my grandmother told, Eleanor was born a Lester but her farther died early and her mother remarried to a Dunbar.
In any case no one has seen Calvin tomb stone, it might not even be readable, he died on October 7th 1874
You are right, most of the tomb stones are nearly illegible and some are pitted slab and blank. I know someone who is going up there in a week or so and I’ll ask them to look around and see what they come up with. I’ll let you know what they find. I’ll have to do some research about that ‘anti-rent movement’ and see what I find about Calvin Finkle. Thanks so much for getting in touch with me.
